Making traditions: Eddy’s first pumpkin patch.

This week our lil’ family of three decided to venture out and take a trip to the pumpkin patch. The weather was amazing. The sun was shining. The blue sky was abundant with those fluffy white clouds. (Not sure what kind of clouds they were. Cumulus? I got a C in weather class.) We were on a mission: Hot apple cider. Pumpkin donuts. Pictures of Eddy in the pumpkin patch. #familyday
Enjoy!
I wore my flats that day. They took one for the team.

He kills me.

We realized Eddy’s bootie fell in the mud after we took all the pictures. Whoops! On another note, I could just eat those cheeks right up, I love kissing them so.
My guys.
Closed eyes. Full diaper. Can’t win. Friday Night Lights anyone? …anyone?
We then attempted to place Eddy in the pumpkin patch for our long awaited photo shoot. He had none of it. #figures #lovehimanyway
Papa taking care of our little angry bird.
Stick a fork in me. I’m done. Holy cow I love this man.
So I’ve been gluten free/dairy free for a while, but these donuts are worth the splurge. So, so worth it.

Family selfie.
We decided that even with the pumpkin patch meltdown, the day was a success! We are looking forward to many more years here at County Line Orchard as a Konicki family tradition. Bring on the donuts! Bring on the cider! And yes, even bring on the occasional breakdowns if it means makin’ memories as a little family.

Hand-lettering tutorial & hand-lettered shop!

My friends, today is a big day. For two reasons.
Reason one:
My sweet friend Cammie over at Polka Dotted Peony asked me to do a little tutorial on how to do some fancy hand-lettering. It’s surprisingly simple. So, head on over to her blog, get tutored by the tutorial, hand-letter something pretty, put it on Instagram, tag me, and show the world your awesome new skillz.
Yes, skillz.
Reason two:
It’s been in the works for months now. I’ve put it on hold. Prayed. Continued. Put it on hold again. Prayed. And the cycle continued. With shaky knees and a heart that is stepping out in faith, I’d like to introduce you to my little hand-lettered shop.
The Simple City Shop is the name and hand-lettered everything is it’s game.
Weddings.
Holidays.
Custom-made prints.
And the like.
She’s still a work in progress {I mean, aren’t we all?}, and it has been quite a journey of the heart and mind to launch the shop. All this to say, please head on over there and check it out. I would love to make you something pretty to decorate your home, or hand-letter a piece that would speak straight to someone’s heart as a gift. I hope you enjoy what you find over at my lil’ shop!
I want to say a special thanks to my sweet friends who have been incredibly encouraging during this whole process of opening the shop. It’s been a long time coming and I couldn’t have done it without you telling me to do it. Like, for real. You know who you are and you are some of my inspirations.
Thank you Cammie for helping this creative entrepreneur with your business mind and skills. These last stages of my shop needed your guidance. If you all have not read through Cammie’s series on Savvy Business Secrets for Creative Entrepreneurs, it’s a must-read. It is a series I will go back to as I continue to learn the business side of The Simple City Shop.
Happy Friday to all and thanks for stopping by!
You are loved.

Do-Rite Donut Shop

This morning PK didn’t have to be at work until a little later, so he took me to Do-Rite Donuts on a fun little morning date. It’s a place he and his friend Joel frequent and PK is always speaking highly of it. The donuts, the coffee, the convenience and the efficiency of it.
He was right. About all of that.
Which 90% of the time he is usually right on any matter in life really. I know that’s not what it’s about in a marriage, being wrong or right, but if it were what it was about, PK would be the winner. And I’m cool with that now, most of the time.  He’s smart and way more practical and sensible than I and he’s really good at directions n-stuff, so I’d rather him be the right one in the relationship.
AAAAnd now, the lineup of your Friday morning Do-Rite Donuts.
{Said loudly in a baseball announcer man voice}
Hello, old fashioned cinnamon crunch heaven. Welcome to our table.
He’s even handsome mid-bite.
I, myself, decided against the mid-bite picture and chose instead
the  old hold-the-donut-up-while-the-man-walks-behind-me pose.
These little birds get SO close to you!
Also, let us not forget how AH-MAZING Dark Matter Coffee tastes.
Roasted right here in the Windy City.

I was going to put these pictures of us side by side but we literally looked like a pair of boobs.

It was a lovely city morning.
I was overwhelmed by PK’s grace and patience with me prior to leaving for our donut date. I was being incredibly difficult and he showed me God’s love with his consistent pursuit of my heart. He showed me God’s love with how quick he was to forgive me. None of that I deserved.
He even posed for a picture inside of an oversized donut.
That, my friends, is love.
